Protection & Quality

An Antimicrobial Performance Undergarment for Hospitals and Healthcare Units to Promote a Sterile Environment and Increase Quality Control:

The recommendation to hospitals released on January 27, 2014 shows research into how hospitals utilization of antimicrobial garments can help decrease (HAI) and promote a sterile environment.

Key Areas Addressed:

We evaluated and summarized the literature around 2 aspects of Hospital Care Personnel (HCP) attire.

  1. Perception of both patients and HCP regarding HCP attire in relation to professionalism and potential risk for transmission of microorganisms.
  2. Evidence of contamination of HCP attire and the potential for HCP attire to contribution to the transmission of pathogenic microorganisms in hospital.

In addition , we preformed a survey of the SHEA membership and SHEA research network to learn more about the policies related to HCP attire that are currently in place in members institutions.
